What is a Chimney Jack?
Leonardo Da Vinci designed a device called the "chimney jack" around the year 1500 AD. The
chimney jack was used to turn a roasting skewer. This reaction-type turbine worked on the principle of
heat raising gases from the roasting fire. As the hot air rose, it passed through fanlike blades that
turned the roast through a series of gears.
